Festival Judges

Our festival is judged by a group of experienced filmmakers and industry professionals. The jury includes filmmakers, visual artists, and other creative experts from different backgrounds. Every submission is carefully reviewed for creativity, storytelling, technical quality, and overall impact. We make sure the judging is fair and focuses on selecting the best films.

Al Amin, widely known as Shamim Al Amin, is a journalist, author, and internationally recognized documentary filmmaker. He sees himself as a simple individual with a heartfelt purpose—to create meaningful change in society through storytelling and creativity.

With a career spanning nearly 25 years, Shamim Al Amin has built a unique reputation that blends journalistic excellence, creative vision, and cultural leadership. His work reflects a deep commitment to humanity, awareness, and impactful communication.

As a documentary filmmaker, he gained global recognition in 2025 for his COVID-19–inspired film Hope Never Dies, which earned him the Best Documentary Filmmaker award at the Brooklyn International Short Awards in New York.

Widely respected for his compassionate and patient-centered approach, he is recognized as a dedicated healer who believes that true healthcare goes beyond treatment — it is rooted in empathy, dignity, and human connection.

With a strong foundation in clinical excellence, Dr. Das has consistently demonstrated his commitment to delivering high-quality care. His work reflects a rare balance of medical precision and genuine compassion, making him not only a skilled doctor but also a trusted figure in the communities he serves. As a healthcare leader, he has played a vital role in improving clinical systems, empowering medical teams, and raising the standard of care.

Al Amin, widely known as Shamim Al Amin, is a journalist, author, and internationally recognized documentary filmmaker. He sees himself as a simple individual with a heartfelt purpose—to create meaningful change in society through storytelling and creativity.

With a career spanning nearly 25 years, Shamim Al Amin has built a unique reputation that blends journalistic excellence, creative vision, and cultural leadership. His work reflects a deep commitment to humanity, awareness, and impactful communication.

As a documentary filmmaker, he gained global recognition in 2025 for his COVID-19–inspired film Hope Never Dies, which earned him the Best Documentary Filmmaker award at the Brooklyn International Short Awards in New York. The film touched audiences worldwide with its powerful human story and received official selections and honors at several prestigious international festivals, including the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival (India), Dhaka International Film Festival, Tokyo International Cinema Awards, LA Sun Film Fest, and the Atlanta Movie Awards.

In journalism, Shamim Al Amin has been a witness to many historic moments. He has extensive experience in print, digital, and broadcast media both in Bangladesh and internationally. Throughout his career, he has covered major global events, including U.S. presidential elections, several sessions of the United Nations General Assembly, and national elections in the United Kingdom and India. 

He has also reported on important international conferences such as the SAARC Summit in Bhutan, an anti-corruption summit in Greece, and the UN Climate Change Conference (COP15) in Copenhagen, Denmark.  

His contributions to sports journalism are also notable. He has provided on-ground coverage of major global sporting events, including the ICC Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand and the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

In Bangladesh, he served as a Senior Reporter at Prothom Alo, one of the country’s most influential newspapers. In television journalism, he made a lasting impact as Assignment Editor at Ekattor TV and as the host of the widely respected current affairs program Ekattor Journal. Known for his calm presence, analytical depth, and engaging presentation style, he earned the trust and respect of viewers. Beyond national boundaries, he also played a pioneering role in launching Bengali-language television channels abroad, including TBN24 in the United States, strengthening the voice of the Bangladeshi diaspora.

His excellence has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including the Monajat Uddin Memorial Award, UNFPA Award, UNESCO Club Award, FPAB Journalism Award, SANDHANI Safe Blood Award, and the National Education Week Gold Medal. Academically, he achieved outstanding success by securing first position in his Master’s degree (MSS) in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of Dhaka, earning the Masud Khan Gold Medal.

As an author and educator, Shamim Al Amin has significantly contributed to the development of future media professionals. His books on journalism and media studies—such as Media and JournalismTelevision News and JournalismTelevision News Presentation, and A Simple Guide to TV Journalism—are widely read and used by students and practitioners. He has also been a passionate advocate of debate and critical thinking, serving as a former Vice President of the Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS) and co-founding the Suryasen Hall Debate Club. His debate books continue to inspire young minds.

Beyond journalism and education, he is also a talented fiction writer. His works, including The Deep Night Sky and the children’s book Sulky Arisha and Her Squirrel, showcase his creative depth and emotional storytelling.

As a filmmaker, Shamim Al Amin is known for bringing history and human experiences to life. His documentaries, such as Songs for a Country—which revisits the historic 1971 Concert for Bangladesh—and Independence: How This Word Became Ours, inspired by the historic March 7 speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, stand as powerful cultural narratives. His recent film Hope Never Dies, premiered in New York on June 20, 2025, captures stories of resilience, loss, and hope during the global pandemic.

In 2026, he founded the New York Film Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting filmmaking—especially short films and documentaries. Through this platform, he organizes film festivals, seminars, and workshops, supports emerging filmmakers, and uses cinema as a tool to spread social awareness and positive change.

As part of this initiative, the New York Global Short Film Fest is being organized, aiming to bring together storytellers from around the world and celebrate diverse voices in cinema.

Now based in New York, Shamim Al Amin continues to serve as a respected voice of the Bangladeshi diaspora—working as a journalist, filmmaker, author, and cultural ambassador. His journey, from a passionate debater at the University of Dhaka to an internationally recognized media professional, reflects dedication, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to truth and creativity.
