For the first time, the New York Global Short Film Fest 2026 (Season One) will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026. This international film festival will be a day-long event. The festival is being organized by the non-profit organization New York Film Foundation. The main partner for this first season is Diaspora USA. Supporting partners include Queens Public Library, Autism Society Habilitation Organization (ASHO), and One 1 Organization. Standard Express is joining as a sponsor. Festival director and founder of New York Film Foundation Shamim Al Amin said the event will run from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM across two venues. The opening program will take place at Queens Public Library at Central, located at 89-11 Merrick Blvd, Jamaica, NY 11432. From 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, seminars, workshops, and film screenings will be held there. The second venue will be the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning (JCAL), located at 161-04 Jamaica Ave, Jamaica, NY 11432. From 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, this venue will host film screenings, discussions, and the award ceremony. Shamim Al Amin also shared that awards will be given in 11 different categories. Short films and documentaries made within the last three years will be eligible for submission. Filmmakers can submit their work in multiple categories. There will also be separate categories for students and amateur filmmakers. Submissions must be made through FilmFreeway, and more details are available on the festival website. Convener of the festival Dr. Pratap Das, a well-known cultural personality, organizer, and President of Diaspora USA, expressed hope that many strong films from around the world will take part in the festival. He said it will be an important event for audiences in New York. General Secretary of Diaspora USA and one of the festival coordinators Ajaz Alam said that many internationally renowned filmmakers and guests will participate in the event. He invited everyone to join and enjoy the festival.
