Global Buzz Grows for New York Global Short Film Fest 2026

The New York Global Short Film Fest 2026 (Season One) has already generated remarkable international attention, with organizers reporting a strong global response shortly after submissions opened. Within just one month, the festival received 265 film submissions from filmmakers across multiple continents, making it one of the most actively participating new film events listed on FilmFreeway.

The festival, scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 8, 2026 in New York, is already being described by organizers as a fast-rising international platform for short films and documentaries.

Rapid Global Interest and Growing Momentum

Submissions have come from a wide range of regions including the United States, Bangladesh, India, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and both North and South America. According to organizers, the strong early participation reflects growing international excitement around the event.

The festival has also been listed as a “best seller” on FilmFreeway, highlighting its early popularity among global filmmakers.

The last date for submission is July 5, 2026, and entries are being accepted in 11 competitive categories, including special sections for students and emerging filmmakers.

Organizers and Vision

The festival is organized by the non-profit institution New York Film Foundation Inc., which aims to promote social awareness through cinema, support emerging filmmakers, and expand cultural programming in film and photography.

The main partner for this season is Diaspora USA.

Festival founder and director Shamim Al Amin stated that the goal of the event is to create a sustainable international platform for storytelling, education, and creative exchange. The festival is also planned to become an annual cultural event.

Festival convenor Dr. Pratap Das added that the event is expected to bring together diverse global voices and high-quality independent cinema for New York audiences.

Festival Schedule and Venues

The one-day festival will run from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM across two venues:

  • 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM: Opening ceremony, seminars, workshops, and screenings at
    Queens Public Library Central (Jamaica, Queens)
  • 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM: Screenings, discussions, and awards ceremony at
    Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning (JCAL)

Jury and Awards

The jury board will be led by American filmmaker Lear Levin, along with other international film professionals.

Awards will be presented across 11 categories, with recognition for both professional filmmakers and newcomers. Participants are allowed to submit films in multiple categories, provided the films were produced within the last three years.

This season’s partners include Queens Public Library, FilmFreeway, Autism Society Habilitation Organization (ASHO), and 1 One Organization.

The creative partner is The Lens New York, while sponsors include TrueMed Pharma and Standard Express.
