NEW YORK — The Bangladesh Institute of Performing Arts (BIPA) has officially joined the New York Global Short Film Fest 2027 as its main partner, marking the beginning of an exciting collaboration with the New York Film Foundation.
The announcement brings together two organizations that share a strong interest in arts, culture, storytelling, and community engagement. Both organizations will work closely to present the second season of the international film festival in New York.
The festival is expected to take place at the end of May or the beginning of June 2027. The final date and venue will be announced soon. Organizers are already working on the festival program, venue, youth activities, workshops, cultural events, sponsorship, and the formation of an organizing committee.
Founded in 1993 by a group of Bangladeshi artists in New York, BIPA began its journey in a small classroom in Astoria, Queens, with only six students. It has since grown into a respected cultural institution with three locations across Queens and Brooklyn.
For more than three decades, BIPA has worked to promote Bengali arts, language, and cultural heritage in New York’s multicultural communities. Through classes, performances, and community programs, the organization has provided opportunities for many children, young people, emerging artists, and performers. Its students have performed at community and mainstream venues across New York and beyond.
BIPA’s experience in arts education and youth engagement is expected to add a new dimension to the 2027 festival. This year, the organizers will place special importance on the participation of children and young people.
Along with the Student Film category, a new Children’s Film category has been introduced. One or two filmmaking workshops are also being planned for children and young participants. The workshop format, instructors, schedule, and other details will be announced later.
The Festival Spirit Award will also highlight and encourage the creativity of young participants during the 2027 festival.
The New York Film Foundation expressed its excitement about working with BIPA and described the partnership as an important step toward building a stronger, more creative, and meaningful annual film festival. The organizers also hope that other respected cultural and community organizations may join the festival as associate partners.
Film submissions for the 2027 festival opened on September 1 through FilmFreeway. Filmmakers from around the world are invited to submit short films, documentaries, student films, children’s films, music videos, and works in other available categories.
